November 2024

WELCOME

With the festive season coming up fast, we look forward to another Christmas Lunch and get together with our club member friends.  This year we will have some live Christmas music to provide a seasonal vibe, and there will also be the usual Christmas Hamper raffles.

Botanic Gardens Lunch

Our recent event was the trip to Auckland Botanical Gardens, where our group of 15 were given a guided tour on the Wiri Rambler.  We were fortunate with the fine weather and  being the height of the spring season, the blossoms were colourful and abundant. Many visitors took advantage of the sunny day to picnic in the gardens.  We enjoyed a group lunch at the Cafe, while catching up with our club member friends.

HAVE YOUR SAY IN THE CLUB'S FUTURE

Its important that as a club we have a future where we can build on the positives we have enjoyed and be confident that we are providing what our members want, in keeping with the vision and direction that Air New Zealand is working towards. Peter Elmsly reflects on the past nearly 80 years and invites you to have a say in what you want and expect from the retiree club in the future. Please email your feedback to airnzretirees@gmail.com

MYIDTravel

New Version now LIVE

The anticipated upgrade to myIDTravel is arriving in September! This means that the loadings, already enjoyed by many, will be wrapped up in a fresh new package. You will still access myIDTravel at https://stafftravel.nz, by signing on as you usually would using your Airpoints number, but you will notice that things look a little different. Air New Zealand uses myIDTravel by Lufthansa to manage staff and duty travel bookings. In 2024, Lufthansa upgraded the ‘look and feel’ of their online platform, giving it a refreshed user interface whilst retaining the functions familiar in the previous version. Although a few of the functions are accessed in a slightly different way, the majority are similar to the previous version. Download the User Guide below for a pictorial walk-through of the common processes, or watch the video.

NEW STAFF BENEFITS

AVIS RENTAL CAR DEAL

Avis Rental Cars can now provide a 10% discounted rental car rate for New Zealand and Australia.

VOLUNTEERING

Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, strengthen your ties to your community or neighborhood, and can also be very fulfilling and a lot of fun. Below are a few ideas to get you started.

Fair Food

Fair Food help rescue food waste and cook or prepare it to be redistributed for those in need. Volunteer as an individual for various upcoming dates.

Forest & Bird

Want to make a difference to our amazing reserve at Tuff Crater? Want some company on Thursday mornings? Open minded and wanting to learn? Then sign up to the Tuff Crater mailing list and keep updated with opportunities to help. Tuff Crater is a community and reserve in Northcote on the North Shore. Forest & Bird and the local community are working hard to make Tuff Crater & Onepoto Stream and surrounding properties pest free so wildlife and natural beauty can thrive. There is a regular group that meet on Thursday mornings from 9am until 12 noon, mostly focused on pest plant control. They also have monthly events on Saturdays. Their experienced team will upskill you so you will soon become an expert. They're always looking for new volunteers, so why not do join them and do some good? Access Onepoto Stream from behind Invenco on Kawana St. Cover up and bring weeding tools.

Repair Cafe

Have you ever lamented the fact that things just don't last these days? Where do we take something that needs mending, or fixing? A monthly collaborative repair café is being held by Repair Café Aotearoa NZ and Auckland Central City Library. They offer diagnosis and repair (where possible) of small electrical items, as well as mending of clothing and textiles. Small leather and jewellery items are also sometimes able to be repaired.

To accommodate everyone, the general public will be able to see a volunteer repairer for one item at a time. The Repair Cafe is held at the Central City Library, 44/46 Lorne Street, Auckland City Centre in the library's Makerspace. If you are a clever fixer or mender, get in touch by emailing nzrepaircafeinfo@gmail.com
